In an incredible show of trust, that I would not go “poaching”, I was asked by RCU’s local rival club, Studenten Stadt (Stu Sta), to go and represent their club in providing a Rugby Training Programme for an all-day school (Geschlossene Ganztagsschule) at the Bauhausplatz Primary school. Every Wednesday the students participated in 3x age group sessions (Year 1, Year 2 and combined Year 3&4) with around 20 students in each group taking part in 1.5 hour sessions. The indoor programme, run for the whole of the 2024 – 2025 school year was focussed on fun, with the majority of the time being spent mixing basic skills development and playing fun games such as Touch Rugby and Kick Tennis – in the end to a considerably high standard. Of particular importance was the development of confidence within the female students and the introduction of captains to encourage further development for particularly talented students.
